Cottage Cheese Bowls with Mixed Berries and Chocolate Chips
- Cottage Cheese: Again, a fermented cottage (read more below) cheese, like Good Culture, is our preference. Another favorite when I can't find the popular Good Culture brand is Nancy's brand.
- Mixed Berries: Fresh or frozen, naturally sweet organic or wild mixed berries for your daily antioxidant boost.
- No Sugar Added Chocolate Chips: Optional, but yummy. We're fans of Ghirardelli brand, no sugar added, dark chocolate chips. Rich in antioxidants, delicious, and no weird aftertaste!

How to Make Cottage Cheese Bowls
Since you're just combining ingredients, making cottage cheese bowls couldn't be easier:
- Measure out one cup of cottage cheese into a bowl.
- Prep the apples or berries and assemble them on top.
- Dust the entire thing with cinnamon or sprinkle with a few no-added sugar chocolate chips if using.

Variations
Using one cup of cottage cheese as your base, make your own version:
- Use different fruit: Stone fruit, such as cherries, peaches, nectarines, and plums, are good options, as they have a low to moderate glycemic index and are high in fiber.
- Add a small drizzle of no sugar-added nut butter.
- Add some ground chia seeds for added fiber and healthy fats.
- Top with a small sprinkling of your favorite nuts.
- Top with toasted, unsweetened coconut flakes.
- Blend frozen berries and cottage cheese in a mini blender for a quick smoothie bowl and add your toppings.
Dietitian Approved by Jen Birge, MS, RDN, CDCES
The cottage cheese bowls have a great protein to carb ratio and are dietitian approved for insulin resistance, prediabetes, and diabetes. It's a meal that I personally have often because it provides a good amount of protein (almost 30 grams!) and is extremely quick and easy. Under 5 minutes to prepare!

Fermented Cottage Cheese is Gut Healthy
Like Jackelin mentioned, if you use the Good Culture brand, you are getting a healthy dose of probiotics because this brand of cottage cheese is fermented. Maintaining gut health is important and helpful for glucose and weight management.
Because this meal is so easy and packed with health benefits, to me it's a no brainer and one I have several times a week! It definitely gets my approval for insulin resistance, prediabetes, and diabetes.
